Surviving the Times In Between Success
We spend so much time talking about success that we rarely talk about the space between where we are and where we want to be.
The promotion hasn’t come yet. The business isn’t profitable yet. The relationship hasn’t materialized. The house isn’t yours. The dream is still a vision board, a prayer, a plan scribbled in a notebook.
And yet, life keeps happening.
The hardest seasons are not always the moments of failure. Often, they are the moments of waiting.
The in-between is where many people quit.
Not because they lack talent. Not because they lack vision. But because they become exhausted carrying the weight of an unfinished story.
We are conditioned to celebrate milestones. We applaud graduations, weddings, promotions, launches, and achievements. We rarely celebrate the years spent studying, sacrificing, rebuilding, healing, or quietly trying again after disappointment.
But those years matter.
In fact, they may matter more than the destination itself.
The Invisible Work
The in-between seasons are where character is built.
This is where discipline develops when motivation disappears.
This is where faith grows when evidence is limited.
This is where resilience is forged through repeated disappointments that somehow don’t break you.
The world sees the success story. Very few people see the nights you questioned yourself, the applications that went unanswered, the opportunities that fell through, or the tears shed behind closed doors.
Yet every one of those moments contributes to who you become.
Success is not created on the day recognition arrives.
It is created in the hundreds of ordinary days that came before it.
Learning to Live While Waiting
One of the greatest lessons I have learned is that life cannot be postponed until success arrives.
Too many of us tell ourselves:
“I’ll be happy when…”
“I’ll rest when…”
“I’ll celebrate when…”
“I’ll enjoy life after…”
But there will always be another goal beyond the current one.
If we aren’t careful, we spend years surviving instead of living.
The waiting season is not a placeholder. It is part of your life story.
The friendships you build, the lessons you learn, the skills you develop, the boundaries you establish, and the peace you cultivate are all valuable—even if they never appear on a résumé or social media announcement.
Success Often Looks Like Survival First
Many people imagine success as a straight path upward.
In reality, success often begins with survival.
Getting out of bed when you’re discouraged.
Paying bills while building a dream.
Choosing integrity when shortcuts seem easier.
Continuing to show up after rejection.
Protecting your peace while everything around you feels uncertain.
These victories may not receive applause, but they are victories nonetheless.
Sometimes success looks less like conquering a mountain and more like refusing to give up halfway up the climb.
Trusting the Process
The in-between seasons require a different kind of strength.
Not the strength to sprint.
The strength to endure.
The strength to keep planting seeds when you cannot yet see a harvest.
The strength to believe that today’s effort matters even when today’s results are invisible.
Growth is often happening beneath the surface long before it becomes visible.
A tree develops roots before it bears fruit.
A foundation is poured before a house is built.
Likewise, many of the qualities required to sustain success are developed long before success arrives.
Your Life Is Not On Hold
If you find yourself in a season between where you’ve been and where you’re going, remember this:
You do not have to earn the right to enjoy your life.
You do not have to wait until everything is perfect to find gratitude.
You do not have to achieve every goal before acknowledging how far you’ve already come.
The in-between is not wasted time.
It is preparation.
It is growth.
It is becoming.
And one day, when people look at your success, they may only see the destination.
But you will know the truth.
You survived the waiting.
You survived the uncertainty.
You survived the times in between success.
And that may be the greatest accomplishment of all.
